Network configuration....

I have a broadband Internet connection coming into my house which connects to
Netgear FVS318 VPN Firewall I plan to add a wireless point to my configuration
(connected directly to the FVS318) how will this affect my security??

If the wireless point were to be compromised, would this affect my current
network traffic?
