The modem should not cause any problems. A router might perhaps cause
problems. If you have a modem/router combo, that would have whatever
problems the router part has.
There are simple modems that only do the modem part. Most dsl modems
can be set to work this way (configured to act as a bridge). But if
your ISP uses PPPoA you might have difficulty getting that to work.
If your provider does bridged ethernet, there shouldn't be a
problem. If your ISP does PPPoE, then you would need to run PPPoE
software on the PC, or on a router that supports your VPN.
