Well, as I have said before, I do hope to be able to open
my own observtory someday,. since astronomy is a
hobby of mine, there are several for-profit privately run
observatories in the USA now. I took a few course
in astronomy as part of the science requirement in college,
and one professor does run his own observatory up in
the mountains, and he TOLD us, back in the late '90s,
that to run a computer network for an observatory,
just use a NAT program, with a software firewall,
and some kind of filtering program (SurfWatch was
the number one filtering program at that tme). That is
what this professor used at the observatory he ran. And
he never had a problem with security. So it was from
business courses, and astronomy courses, where I
learned about computer networking.
If and when I do ever get to open my own observatory,
the network the observatory's computers run on will
be handled by a computer running ICS,. or another NAT
program, using CyBlock for network filtering. and Tiny
Personal Firewall for protection. For a network, of, say,
30 machines, it would make the most sense.
