JBOB - SO FAR, SO GOOD! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!! (I'M NOT
SHOUTING - JUST TRYING TO DIFFERENTIATE MY RESPONSES FROM YOUR
STATEMENTS SINCE I CANNOT ITALICIZE!)

YES, IN FACT THIS IS WHY I POWERED OFF/ON BOTH THE MODEM AND THE
ROUTER. HOWEVER, YOU SAID THAT DOING THIS IS NOT NECESSARY. HOW
WOULD I DO A DHCP IP ADDRESS RENEWAL WITHOUT POWERING OFF/ON THE
ROUTER?

> One other thing to be wary of is if your provider uses MAC
addressing for an IP address. It might be hard coded or not, and it
all depends on your provider. For me on Comcast my IP is based on my
MAC address so I just use the router's ability to clone the MAC
address of my main computer's NIC. Once I set that and do a DHCP
renew I get the same IP instantly. If I do power down the equipment
for a little while(?) upon power up I will get assigned a new IP
address.

I'M NOT SURE I UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. I USE COMCAST AS MY
BROADBAND ISP. I RAN "IPCONFIG /ALL" IN THE COMMAND PROMPT ON
COMPUTER A AND COMPUTER B.

COMPUTER A LISTS THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS OF THE 3COM ETHERLINK NIC IN
HEXADECIMAL FORMAT AND LISTS THE IP ADDRESS AS 192.168.1.100.
COMPUTER B THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS OF THE SiS 900 ETHERLINK NIC IN
HEXADECIMAL FORMAT AND LISTS THE IP ADDRESS AS 192.168.1.101. THE
LINKSYS ROTUER IP ADDRESS IS SET TO 192.168.1.1 (THE DEFAULT) AND I
HAVE ASSIGNED IT A UNIQUE PASSWORD.

IN THE COMMAND PROMPT ON BOTH COMPUTERS, THE DEFAULT GATEWAY AND THE
DHCP SERVER ARE BOTH LISTED AS 192.168.1.1 - THE IP ADDRESS OF THE
ROUTER. THE DNS SERVERS ARE LISTED AS: 68.87.64.196, 68.39.224.5, AND
68.39.224.6

DO I HAVE TO MAKE ANY CHANGES?

THANK YOU,
JS
