try adjusting your IE setting ... Internet, to lowest setting then test and
increase until you find a compatible setting for your surfing habits. XP,
especially when adding hotfixes or the SP2 upgrade will, sometimes,
automatically overwrite your custom setting and install its own defaults. I
have found this to be frustrating and is especially true for IE related
cumulative fixes.(tools > internet options . security / Privacy /
connections / Programs). Most IE access issues will be found under the
security Tab, but check the others listed, just in case...including the
advance settings). As always, if you are testing something...make one change
at a time, documenting what you changed at each step (before-after-restore)
before moving to the next test setting.

I don't remember...did you or didn't you run MBSA, base security analyser?
