A Linksys Route will not give you the *same* functionality as a personal
desktop firewall. It will give you NAT and, depending on the
product/version, it may give you SPI.

The GRC site is going to scan for open ports and most likely you'll get
the same results for both the router (because of NAT) and the PFW
(because of packet filtering). What you get with a PFW you don't get
with a router is Program Control.
