My current ADSL router only has NAT and I am upgrading to a new wireless
ADSL router.
I am looking at the Netgear DG834Guk
The info on the website claims it has a firewall with Stateful Packet
Inspection (SPI) & intrusion Control, Denial of Service and VPN pass
through.
I understand the VPN bit.
I think I understand the DoS from having read things over the years but
don't know how this applies to the Router.
I don't understand the rest of it.
I guess this firewall will protect me from attacks from the internet, but
will it prevent rogue programs that may manage to get onto my machine from
phoning home, in the was ZoneAlarm does (dealing with incoming and outgoing
requests).
I would appreciate it if someone could explain this stuff to me in simple
language or direct me to an apporpriate website.
I am happy for replies such as
It protects you like ZA and is worth buying
It only protects you from the internet but is decent, XXXX is better
It won't protect you from anything/is rubbish and should be avoided.
Thanks in advance for your time and effort
