No, there should not be any port to open. Since you have a VPN, all
ports should be open through the VPN tunnel.

The reason you probably cannot access mapped drives is because they are
mapped to a server name, and your computer may not be able to find those
computers when not on the LAN. To get around this, you'll need to add an
entry for the(se) server(s) in your LMHOSTS file, which should be in the
    \%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc directory. Basically, that's a
mapping of IP address to NetBIOS name, and should look something like
    this:

    10.10.10.10 servername #PRE
    10.10.10.11 server2 #PRE

substitute with the names and IP addresses of the servers you need to
    connect to.

An easier way to deal with this is to use WINS servers. Check with your
IT dept. if they have set one up, and ask for it's IP address for use
with your VPN connection. You can simply enter that address in
statically on your computer (despite getting everything else ip related
dynamically), and your computer will be able to find all the servers at
work without having to manually map it in the LMHOSTS file.

Note: do not confuse the LMHOSTS.SAM file with the LMHOSTS file.
Normally, there's only the .SAM file in that directory, and that is
simply a sample file, changing or adding entries in that file will have
no effect whatsoever. The file MUST be called LMHOSTS with NO extension.
