I am running XP Home service pack 2.
I'm a little concerned with programs contacting websites without my
consent. I'm trying zone alarm, but meanwhile I was wondering...
I read on the Internet that any copy of svchost.exe not in the
C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder is not legitimate. I found the file in the
following three folders on my computer:
The date on this first one is 8-4-04. I don't think I installed
service pack 2 until after that although it is the same date as the
one in system32.
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe
The other two copies are in:
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\SVCHOST.EXE-3530F672.pf
C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\svchost.exe
Are these version of svchost.exe okay to stay on my pc?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
morganlast
