I don't really have a very good understanding of Services. But anyway, in
Services, I selected Messenger, right-clicked for properties, clicked the
Stop
button and selected Disabled in Startup Type. Is this what you mean?
I presume that it is possible that there may be some programs installed that
rely on this service. I guess I'll find out when something doesn't work.
