The router does all the sharing for you, the ICF is useless against your
problems.

Since it sounds like you are running Windows XP, you need to be aware of
several things:
These cheap routers, with NAT, are NOT FIREWALLS. They provide
protection by blocking INBOUND connections that your computer didn't
initiate.
Web browsing is dangerous and the router can not do anything to protect
you. If you could disable Active-X, Java-Scripting, and such, it would
be a nice device (and some of them can), but then your web browsing
experience would be must less pleasing for good sights.
You need to understand that adding all those search-bar helpers, cute
icons for email, etc... is a bad idea, they don't help, don't make your
message more readable, etc... (In case you've installed these).
To get rid of your problem you are going to have to remove the spyware
using several methods - uninstall it using the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
Uninstall it using Spybot Search & Destroy from www.safer-
networking.org. Try other spyware products from other vendors.
Installing a quality Antivirus package on your machine, booting in safe
mode, running a full system scan.
If doing all of the above doesn't work, you are going to have to either
take it to a professional or to format and reinstall from scratch.
Once you get your machine clean, go to www.mozilla.org, download FireFox
0.9.3 and install it, use it as your web browser. It works with every
good site I've been to, works with email, etc... It will block pop-ups,
etc..
Make sure that you have all of your security updates for Windows XP and
for your Anti-virus software, and that you stop running Internet
Explorer (except for banking sites if needed).
One other thing - you can create two accounts on your XP box, one is an
administrator type, one is a User type. When you need to install
software logon as Administrator, when done installing log out. When
running your daily tasks, logon as the User account. I did this for my
mother-inlaw and she's not been compromised in a long time now (she was
getting crap on her machine every couple months before that).
