ZoneAlarm, Wireless Routers and Internet Connection

I run a PC laptop running on Win XP Pro. I have a DSL Internet
connection, and a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router to beam the signal
within the house. I have been using ZoneAlarm for several years now.

All of a sudden, within the past few months, I have trouble obtaining
or maintaining an Internet connection when I have ZoneAlarm engaged.
Sometimes the Internet connection will work at first, then go away.
Other times I will not get a connection at all.

When I shut down ZoneAlarm, my Internet connection works just fine.

I didn't change any of my ZoneAlarm settings (at least knowingly), and
I verified that all my Internet-dependent programs have proper
permissions to operate online through ZoneAlarm. I have also updated
thre firmware for my router. Again, this problem is fairly recent.

Does anyone know whether there are any known issues between ZoneAlarm
and Internet connections, especially through wirless routers?

Bonus question: In the description of the BEFW11S4 router on the
Linksys site, it says this: "Configurable as a DHCP server for your
existing network, the EtherFast® Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router
w/4-Port Switch acts as the only externally recognized Internet
gateway on your local area network (LAN) and serve as an Internet NAT
firewall against unwanted outside intruders." Does this suggest that
my router already has a secure firewall and that use of ZoneAlarm
through the router is actually superfluous?

Thanks.

Chuck
