It's this simple. You should get yourself an ADSL NAT router.
You should read the link below and forget about the multiple
computers part of the NAT router. You should read the Security
part of it as the NAT router will give you instant protection
from the Internet.

It has little or no configuration issues from a user standpoint.
Basically, it's a plug it up and go device. There are a few
people in this NG that will help with getting it connected to
your ISP. That will be the only small thing on your part is
getting the ISP to recognize that you have a router instead of
your computer connected to the ISP's network.

I bring up the NAT router because they are very low in price as
you can get one on sale for as little as $20 US.

You should check with your ISP as they should have a list of
approved ADSL routers. But in general, you'll find that most
manufacturer brands of ADSL routers will work on the ISP's
network.

With the router, you don't have to put applications like MSN
into a *Trusted* zone. The router is not going to care about
that and you don't have to configure the router for anything
like it.

There are some security things you can do with the Win 2K O/S
too. But for now if you can, you should get the ADSL NAT router.

It's as simple as that.
