Check Point does have the largest market share...for corporate
level/enterprise firewalls. Their cost and licensing process has kept them
from making inroads below the Mid-level company market. Not to mention the
steep learning curve caused by the high degree of flexibility (read
complexity) in configuring and installing the premier product FW-1/VPN-1.
They seem to be addressing the lower tier mid-level and niche markets with
the purchase of ZoneAlarm, less complex configuration choices in FW-1/VPN-1
(Vpn1-net, vpn1-pro and simplified vs. traditional mode configuration modes)
plus dedicated firewall appliances, sold both by partners and in-house
platforms.
If they could just address the cost and licensing issues....?
