I had similar woes with NIS2004 and dumped it as well.
It would randomly disable itself, stop updating,give me messages about it being
corrupt somehow and suggesting I re-install.
This is on several different machines, all with completely legal copies.
Some machines did seem to work ok though, but I got sick of it and removed it
(not an easy task BTW) from all systems.
