Actually, I have SP1 slipstreamed into my XP installation CD. I also have
all the current patches on CD. Nothing gets connected to the net until I've
disabled services which I don't need and I've patched it all.

Also, my ISP (Comcast) has done a good job of blocking the RPC exploit. The
only way something can make its way into your system is via a listening
port. Close down most of the unecessary services and you've got nothing
listening to the outside world and thus, no instrusions. But, EVERYTHING is
hackable so I'm not saying I'm 100% secure. No one can say that.

I would be much more tempted to run an A/V program than a firewall. Atleast
it's not just alerting to "attacks" for harmless activities.
