Maybe, you should use a dial-up stand alone NAT router in front of the
machine which cost as much as you have paid for ZAP or NIS and use either
ZAP or NIS behind the router to supplement the router.

It's not a good practice to run two host based FW(s) on the machine,
which could cause problems in the protection.

Usually, if a machine is being compromised, it's due to the user doing
something on their behalf that has caused the condition, like downloading
or clicking on link, etc.

If you're not practicing Safe Hex, maybe you should look into doing it.
