Norton Internet Security reinstallation

I use Norton Internet Security, version 2004 for my firewall and
antivirus protection. The initial software (2002 version) came
preloaded on my computer, I had later upgraded to the 2004 version
via an online purchase. Three months or so after downloading the 2004
version, the program stopped working and reported that it had been
tampered. The instructions were to reinstall the program. Since I
had downloaded the program and had not purchased the warranty, I had
no 2004 file (i.e. no backup). I went ahead and purchased the
Extended Warranty for $6.99. However, I am still unable to download
the 2004 version. I have contacted Symantec for assistance and for
refund of my $6.99.

Does anyone have any ideas for dealing with this situation? I want
the best firewall and anti-virus protection, and I worry that the 2002
version will not cover the recent threats as well as the 2004 version.
 I also want the version that I have paid for and have an active
subscription for updates. I am willing to pay for the extended
download service.

Buyers of online upgrades should be alert for such problems.
