I can't speak for the GB-1000, but I recently got my hands on a PIX 501.
Really nice unit. I found it for $400 over at Provantage.com. (Most want in
the neighborhood of $550.) UPS Gound shipment and I had it in my hands 3
days after I ordered. I've tried to max out the processor, but can't seem to
push it up above 5%. The performance is very good - I haven't had a single
burp or fart on the network since I plugged it in. Just a few config tweaks
and I was in business. Haven't tried setting up IPSec yet, but I know Cisco
does it right. All the other feature sets you would expect are there.
If you are trying to save a buck by buying the DES (K8) versus the 3DES (K9)
package, don't. Just get the 3DES. They discontinued the K8 due to more
relaxed export restrictions on high encryption products.
