I've installed several Fortinet boxes over the last months.
You should buy a Fortinet firewall if you are on a tight budget and need all
the functionality.
The specs of the Fortinet appliances are impressive but...
Antivirus:
It uses the WildList AV database. I've noticed several viruses passing the
AV feature when they should have been detected.
NIDS: The Fortinet box can generate alerts but can't do any policy change to
stop a possible attack.
Content filtering: You can specify HTTP and SMTP keyword filters but the
Fortinet can't interact with 3rd party products like WebSense ...
VPN: You can setup very basic VPN tunnels but you can't configure access
rules within the tunnels. Until recently you couldn't setup aggressive mode
VPN tunnels.
It has limited trouble shooting/debugging facilities.
Support: Since Fortinet is a young growing company, they give a good
support.
If you are looking for quality, you should consider spending some more money
and buy a more mature product.
About Netscreen: They are lowering their prices and spend more money on
publicity.
