Many thnaks for the responses. It's comforting to know they are people out
there who are knowledgreable on the topic willing to part advice. Some of
this stuff is way over my head for now, but as I learn more, I'm sure it
will start to come together.
CAT5 is an last option, but I went wireless as its a pain to wire that room.
I have a WG511 card ready to go into a laptop, so that should help me
pinpoint if its a locational problem.
Last night, I kept the reservred IP addresses, lowered the port speed to 10M
and turnrd off WEP, and lo and behold, I survived the night - signal was on
(albeit only 51%) in the morning. FIRST TIME the signal made it that long.
(Felt like when the baby sleept through the night the first time!). So I am
hoping its buggy firmware, and that a future upgrade will work, and give me
back security via WPA.
Im the interim, I loaded Sygate, so I'm hoping between that, and no SSID
broadcast and MAC filtering, that I've got some minimal acceptable level of
security.
Thanks again.
Marvin
