Need advise about remote access VPN hardware

Hi,

Need some advice on the following:

We are about to implement a remote access VPN solution for our
company. This is the situation:

one central office and about 260 to 300 users (eventually) who need to
connect their laptop to the central office every evening/night to
exchange customer information etc.

Our supplier advised us the following:

for the central office implement a Checkpoint solution running on a
Nokia IP350 box connected to a DSL connection (2 mbit for example).
The laptop users will be given a DSL connection (or ISDN if DSL is not
available in their region) and are going to use the Checkpoint
SecureClient VPN-client to connect to the Checkpoint box at the
central office.

Now, the idea is to supply every laptop user with the same SOHO
ethernet router for their internet connection (note: the router will
not setup the VPN-tunnel, that's a job for the VPN-client).

So far all clear. My manager tries to cut expenses so he would like to
make use of the (mostly free) routers that the ISP supplies with the
DSL connection for the laptop users instead of buying one model for
the whole company. I'm forseeing a little nightmare here. Eventually
we will end up with 3 or 4 or even more diffent types and brands of
SOHO routers (mostly DSL, some ISDN).

Who can give me some real arguments why to *buy* one router model
instead of making use of the ISP provided and *free* routers?

I'm thinking in terms of firmware upgrades, initial setup by the
IT-department, connection problems (i.e. when upgrading the
SecureClient or the Checkpoint box), management of security etc.

Thanks in advance!
