That is incorrect. After installing SecureClient you would create a site
with the IP address of the remote gateway. The client would then connect
to the gateway and download the topology and policy if one was created.

You are not required to have a topology prior to first use.

Are you sure that it is immediately exiting? When it launches it does not
open a window. It opens in the background and puts an icon in the system
tray, which looks like an envelope with a key. Double-clicking on the
icon opens the window, where you can create your remote site.

SecureClient also creates two services that you can check to see if they
are running.
