G'day Simon,

It sounds like you are running ZoneAlarm Pro and that the privacy
settings are getting in the way. In fact, they are doing their job, but
making life hard for you.

Privacy settings in ZoneAlarm do the following things by default:

* stop cookies from crossing domains and protocols (e.g. HTTP and HTTPS)
* stop web bugs from tracking you around the Internet
* remove private header information (what web page you just came from)
* block banner ads, pop-up ads and animations
* block scripts, java and ActiveX objects, and MIME-type objects

You can turn all of that off if it bothers you. It's as simple as
changing the above settings in the Main tab of the Privacy section.

However, for a little extra effort, you can keep all of that protection,
and selectively turn it off for the sites you trust. In the Site List
tab of the Privacy section, you can add the sites that you trust and
allow them to use the above features. Some sites will need access to all
of the features, but most just want the following unticked:

* private header information
* 3rd party cookies
* banner ads
* pop-up ads
* MIME-type objects

HTH,
Ross.
