    | I have been using GoBack to revert after a
    | IE6sp1 install to the post HD swap state in which the IE and NIS
    | weren't working properly.

That makes a difference. Now, it is not proven that you have a hardware
    problem.

    | I did follow the above instructions to reinstall my video drivers
    | however there was no option for VGA. There was only one driver listed
    | - the Matrox. But I changed the colors from 16-bit to 256 colors

There are a lot of buttons to click in those instructions. Well, if you
truly have no Standard VGA, something is amiss. Where can it have gone
to? You cannot cleanly deal with the Matrox (uninstall it), if you have
nothing to use in it's place.

    | However, my PC froze about 3 hours later (not unusual since I have
    | W98SE) and when I rebooted, something happened to my desktop. At the
    | beginning of the Setup, right when the programs began to load in
    | (after I see my desktop), the Desktop display became all messed up. I
    | can see faintly parts of the original desktop. But on top on it are 2
    | small pictures of my destop in the top 1/2 of the screen (top center
    | and right); there are 3 minature pictures of one the screens in the

    | here and there and there were mutli-colored lines at the bottom so I

    | anything or get anything to work. I have GoBack and reverted my

Those are your symptoms, from the original post. Is it still like that?
Is it usable at all? Can you... close all open windows, &...

    "START, Run, DxDiag"?

That is the DirectX Diagnostic tool. Does it have a message?

    Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
    Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

    | Thanks folks for all the ideas. My problems started after I replaced
    | my master HD (which was about to fail) with the backup disk. Since
    | then, NIS and IE haven't worked properly.
    | I installed the IE 6sp1 again (I think that is what I had before (at
    | least IE6) - I can't tell from the IE Help window since that info is
    | missing [another problem]). I have been using GoBack to revert after a
    | IE6sp1 install to the post HD swap state in which the IE and NIS

    | and reboot. It is when my PC reboots the Next time that I am having a
    | video display problem.

    | it rebooted again. The display seemed slightly cleaner but still so
    | obscured that it is unusable.
    | Thanks for your help - any other ideas ?

    | Hi,
    | I have 2 hard drives in my PC and the master began to fail. I copied
    | all the contents to the slave and made the slave the only HD.
    | I got an error that my Norton AntiVirus wasn't working correctly and
    | that I would have to uninstall & reinstall it. Since I have NIS 2003,
    | I had to uninstall and reinstall that too. The NAV appeared to work
    | but I ended up with 2 problems: the NIS main page constantly showed
    | "refreshing" beside the modules and their placement on the page were
    | out of line; and the javascript in IE wasn't working. I uninstalled
    | and reinstalled the NAV and the NIS (and used the exe files with
    | Symantec recommends to do this) but no change. (as an aside, I also
    | have NSW 2002).
    | So I tried to "repair" the IE in the Add/Remove Programs but I got an
    | error message that the IE couldn't be repaired. And when I went to
    | look at the version of the IE in the Help section, the details on IE
    | weren't even displaying.
    | I then downloaded the IE 6 sp 1 from Microsoft and installed it again.
    | Everything went well, the PC rebooted and the NIS was working
    | correctly (no "refreshing" and the lines were aligned properly); and
    | the IE pages were displaying and acting correctly.
But on top on it are 2
    | small pictures of my destop in the top 1/2 of the screen (top center
    | and right); there are 3 minature pictures of one the screens in the
    | top 1/2 of the screen(top left, center, right); there are other things
    | here and there and there were mutli-colored lines at the bottom so I
    | can't see anything there. It is so bad that I really couldn't see
    | anything or get anything to work. I have GoBack and reverted my
    | system. I thought that the IE reinstall somehow corrupted my video
    | drivers so I reinstalled the IE 6 sp 1 again and then installed the
    | video drivers again and then rebooted and ... same problem.
    | I think this is an IE 6 sp1 problem but I could be wrong. Any
    | suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    | Thank you.
