That's odd.

FWIW I have had no problems using the 'Connect/Disconnect' feature with
PPPoe and I have never had to recycle the DSL.

It sounds like you might be encountering a link-related issue with the
negotiation between the interfaces. Try setting the WAN interface to
something other than 'auto'.
