Don't reply to this unless you have some things to add - I have already
found the solution, but I'm posting this for reference.
I'm not sure if this will come in handy for anyone running a Google Groups
archive search, but here goes nothing:
If you have set up server software (such as SpR Jukebox, etc.) for mIRC and
you are behind a firewall, I have found it is best to leave the firewall
options alone! Normally, you would think you would have to configure the
settings in File>Options>Connect>Firewall, but this actually only hinders
you more than anything.
I am not sure why, but leaving this alone is the best thing. This means
that you should NOT check "Enable Firewall support for: Server, Dcc". Make
sure these are UNCHECKED! All data past that point (Protocol, Hostname,
etc.) is null and void and will not have an effect one way or another if
those two options are unchecked.
But we still have a firewall, right? Goto File>Options>DCC>Server and make
sure "Enable DCC Server" is checked off. I would think that "Listen on
Port:" should be able to handle port 1080, but if it doesn't, then enter
6667. This is how I have it set up. I'm still not sure on this, all I
know is that I have a firewall and it works fine with these settings.
Also, be able to check off "Listen for: Send". I have "Perform DNS Lookup"
unchecked over here. Not sure if that makes a difference.
Lastly, and most importantly, make sure you have set your firewall to
forward to the ports you just typed in (either 1080 or 6667, or both?).
For Exmaple: I have a Linksys Netgear model, which can be configured
through the browser. To do this I enter http://192.168.1.1/ and am
prompted with a username dialog. By default, you leave the username blank,
while the password is "admin". Then click on the "Advanced" tab (far
right), and then "Forwarding". If you are on a LAN like I am, you will
want to enter in your specific IP (you can find yours by clicking on
Start>Run>winipcfg). Type in any port ranges (if just one port, type in
the same number: i.e. "6667 To 6667"). I have set mine up for the port
range 6660 To 6670.
(Note: I have also opened ports 59 and 113. Port 53 is the deafult port
number you find in the File>Options>DCC>Server window, I think. Port 113
is opened for the Identd server).
I have also checked both "Protocol TCP" and "Protocol UDP". Not sure if it
makes a difference in this particular case!
I sincerely hope this has at least helped someone in the right direction!
After spending many hours experimenting with the settings, I sure wish I
found a post like this sooner!
Good luck!
