BI/Kerio/Outpost + IPTables/Snort are the personal firewalls for people that have more than the average clue.
ZA/NPF are firewalls for people not so cluey that need an out-of-box-preconfigured firewall/no brainer- i.e. your average user who just needs some protection, not a Comp Sci degree in security.
I am not knocking ZA (I think it's an excellent product) though NIS/NPF are bloatware that doth sucketh muchly.
Generally I find knockers of the more configurable products don't really understand them or know how to make them work properly.

It all comes down to the skill and personal preferences of the user.
