Quite true; I sit corrected, Juergen. I should have clarified that,
unless you specifically request to be notified of any updates, you
won't receive them. I never do because you either have to pay for
them, or you also get their sales announcements along with it.

Most (security) software vendors these days will also have an
automatic update or some kind of feature that takes you to their web
site to check on updates, included in the application somewhere. One
reason is so that you don't get fake "official" update announcements
that then lead you to download a virus unsuspectedly.
