Well, no one thing is ever enough. I say make everything a hard target (all
things that you can, the whole system concept). I'd say install antivirus,
and harden your operating system. I see all kinds of hack attempts per day
from here anyways. People trying to log in as various accounts from the
internet. Of course, they're blocked, but still, it's alarming. Be warned,
don't use blank passwords.
Anyways, my opinion if I had to bet on one outcome or the other, you're
eventually going to be compromised, whether by virus or by trojan or by
hack, etc. There's almost no such thing as too much security.
But another thing to think of is that some software firewalls (mainly this
happens on older, slower machines) can cause your system to lock up, and
this is the way at least a couple hacks start, is by locking up an
application to launch code on it.
Bottom line, find a reputable web site on security, read it, and obey it.
