I use the 128-bit WEP, I have not changed the key since I have set it on my
Linksys router. I am not that concerned about securing my air waves. I am in
like a rural setting.

You should change the WEP key on a periodic basis to make it harder to
crack.

And you should use NetBios if you want a wireless machine to do resources
sharing with a wired machine connected to the router, using the MS O/S.

The more important thing is to make sure your wireless side of the network
is secure from attack from another wireless network or war driving in your
area. And WEP is just part of the protection scheme.
