I use it and it is somewhat useful. But it does absolutely zero if you
have an app running on your system either spying on your or providing
remote access to services. Frankly, that's a vastly more likely
scenario than an outside attack. The most serious vulnerabilities lie
at the application level, where you have browsers subject to drive-by
downloads, JS exploits, etc.
You need something with outbound filtering ability to mitigate this.
This can stop most commercial spyware (all, if properly configured and
you use the right software firewall) and most kinds of RATs. There is
still a risk from assorted exploits like JS. To control these, you
need a combination of proper software updates and patches, up-to-date
anti-virus & anti-spyware software, and perhaps good sandboxing
software.
