I use ISA server and am quite happy with it. When considering its price et
al. I think it is best served in an environment in which you will be not
only firewalling inbound traffic but also where you want to control your
enterprises outbound access. If you are simply looking to protect a
webserver you may be better served with something that requires less
overhead and provides only the functionality that you require. Are you
running a standalone IIS webserver? Do you already have a firewall at the
perimeter? Do you need to protect this server internally as well as from the
internet? If you have a perimeter firewall you may only need to configure
your perimeter firewall for basic packet filtering to your webserver and add
IDS and URL scanning to the server itself. If you need to protect the server
internally as well you could use a very inexpensive router to do the more
extensive filtering. Of course in either case this is in addition to the
usual os "hardening" of the webserver itself.
All in all are you just looking to protect just a webserver or do you have
other firewalling needs as well?
