Taking a moment's reflection, sponge mused:

| First, let me say that using IE defeats the purpose of privacy
| features and largely defeats the purposes of a firewall, due to the
| fact it's so easily infected.
I think you are a bit off base here. There is no substantial
vulnerability in IE6. The features in ZA are geared for any browser that is
subject to the use of cookies and appearance of popup ads. I'm afraid that
means *all* browsers. There are some browsers that have their own options
to block things built in ... but when you consider your Internet Options
control panel is integrated with IE, IE has its own blockers too. There is
nothing in ZA cookie controls that you can't do with Internet Options
control panel. The ZA settings do allow you to block so-called "web bugs"
though.
Also, with your "hosts" file and/or creative ActiveX settings (again in
Internet Options) you can block most popup/banner ads as well ... without
the need of ZA or other 3rd party software.
| Now for the food for thought: it seems -- though I won't state this
| concretely -- that most of ZA's questionable privacy features are
| geared towards IE.
See above, mainly. But, the only thing questionable about ZA's privacy
features is whether or not they will block what you want blocked without
hindering your browsing experience. That's for the individual to decide.
However, there's nothing questionable about their functionality. They work.
Though, sometimes too well.
| ZA is often
| too quirky and cantankerous to be worth the hassle of debugging.
Maybe for you. It works a treat for me. Of course, I don't have need
of the Privacy controls. I use Adshield for popups (IE integrated),
Internet Options for cookie control, and a custom "hosts" file to round
things out. Haven't seen an ad or had an aberrant cookie in about a year.
