An NT/2000 box, for one, or just about any Linux firewall. That means
it would have to run on a dedicated machine. IMO, it's worth it, and
since it's not like you have a T4.5 or fiber connection, it's not like
you need a top-end machine. You can use a cheap old box. As long as
the hard drive is still alive, you should be able to set this up with
an old copy of NT4 and you can still get the Service Pack upgrade (7
is the latest IIRC) from Microsoft. Or use Linux' IPTables feature.
Let me look up some info to see if I can get it right and I'll get
back to you. Somebody else is probably going to post something about
this anyway.
Higher-end routers can filter external IPs. Needless to say, Linksys
is not high end. The problem is that companies like Linksys and
Sonicwall are so wrapped up in exotic networking that they are
clueless as to the core, basic rules of security that have been known
for thousands of years, and apply just as much to the computer field
as any other - specifically, if you don't trust somebody, don't let
them inside.

buttom on left and then the Rules tab in the center frame.
