wrong. its not any type of loop-back connection/router/lan manager login
announcement. its just a service which provides network configuration and
ip assignment to clients within its configured range.

WTF? No. It doesnt care who is online - it has no interest. Its just
there to service requests from hosts who have been configured to receive
addressing automagically. BOOTPS/DHCP has nothing whatsoever to do with the
physical "level" of the network. Nada. Nilch. Go back and relearn the OSI
model. Do not pass go.

Again, you're getting your OSI placement all wrong. Sure, there are
mechanisms within Layer 1 & 2 protocols to do things like carrier detection
(eg. CSMA/CD for ethernet), but that isnt related to this post at all.

Now, dont take this as a personal affront to your manhood. Just consider
the context in which you post replies to people who genuinely need help,
when you dont actually know the correct answer.
If I didn't know the answer, after reading your post, I would believe that
bootps/dhcp had something to do with the physical layer of the network and
was a "standard loop-back connection".
