  Hi,

First, downlad and save the file, don't try to run the install remotely.
Then -

Reboot in Safe Mode, and delete all the files (and settings) in the
\Internet Logs folder, beneath your main Windows or WINNT folder. Empty your
recycle bin, and reboot normally.

Then (don't bother wasting time on too many settings), go to Overview
panel, and UNcheck the box to Load At Startup, say OK to the security check.
Close the program out, then right-click the icon and select shutdown (if it
isn't shutting down properly it'll revert to the last known good database).
Reboot the system.

Now run the new installer. Be sure to choose Clean Install.

Marcus

I'm using ZoneAlarm 3.1.291, which is not the latest version. I'd _like_ to
use the latest version, but I can't seem to upgrade. The upgrade process
consistently goes into a pseudo-frozen mode - I can click cancel or the
close
button, and it asks me if I want to exit or resume, but nothing happens with
either option. With the latest upgrade install (downloaded this evening),
it
stops at the 14% mark. I seem to remember a previous one choking when it
was
telling me that it was uninstalling the old version. Similarly, if I try to
remove ZA from the Add/Remove Programs menu, the uninstall process freezes
on
me.

I'd rather not be forever stuck with version 3.1.291, unable to uninstall or
upgrade. I understand that there used to be instructions on manually
uninstalling ZoneAlarm on the ZoneLabs website, but there doesn't appear to
be a link to the page any more (and a direct link I followed on someone
else's web page redirects to the ZoneLabs support page).

Any help would be appreciated, whether it's a tip on how to successfully
upgrade, or detailed info on how to manually uninstall ZoneAlarm without
leaving behind residual "stuff" or causing problems (I figure that with a
program designed for security, simply deleting it and registry entries
containing "ZoneAlarm" or "ZoneLabs" might not be a wise move), I would
really appreciate it.

Despite many attemps to uninstall and upgrade ZA, my installation of 3.1.291
still appears to be running and working normally, so at the very least, my
system and firewall are both currently fully operational, but at the very
least, I'd like to solve this issue before my copy of ZA is too far out of
date.

Thanks for your help
