I tried Sygate on my WinXP machine and liked the software but no matter what
it blocked some traffic on my local network and slowed local traffic down.

I'm quite satisfied with the security, configuration options and logging of
Sygate Firewall compared to other firewalls. But somehow, the performance of
the network traffic, and especially the LAN gets unaccepable slow. I've the
impression that the problem arose with the upgrade to Windows XP. I'm not
sure however, because I did not test it before.
Server Configuration:
+ Windows XP
+ Mainboard: ASUS P5A-B.
+ Processor: AMD K6 350 MHz.
+ Network adapter: 3COM 10/100 mbit.
+ Sygate Firewall v5.
Network performance LAN:
+ Firewall Disabled.
Performance: 7 MB/sec.
+ Firewall enabled, traffic set to 'Allow All'
Performance: 1.5 MB/sec (about 5 times slower).
+ Firewall enabled, traffic set to 'Normal'
Performance: 0.8 MB/sec (about 10 times slower).
So, I was hoping that anybody would have an idea what could be the problem.
Settings in the firewall self aren't really helpful, because when traffic is
set to 'Allow All', it is already far too slow.
thanks,
Bert
