Memnoch:

They must have finally changed the internal power subsystem. The BEFSX41
arrived on Friday and this one is also relatively cool. Quite unlike the
BEFVP41 I had some months back.

Now if only Linksys could invest just another $0.25 and place a power switch
on the side or front of the unit. And change the filtering so that you can
start off with a "deny everything" and allow only specific IP protocols
through on the inbound and outbound level. And smarter routing so that the
user can Telnet to the DSL modem on the WAN port. (Everybody's router device
seems to want to go out the PPPoE pipe to the Internet when all I want is
straight Ethernet to the DSL modem. It is, after all, on the same network.
It just happens to reside on the WAN port. It doesn't matter if I configure
it for a separate network either.) And provide better documentation fully
explaining the configuration options along with detailed examples. And ...
well, the list could go on for some time. I guess if I want a real firewall,
I should invest in one of the SOHO products. Either that, or build one.

BTW - I noticed a lot of "spoofing attack" via UDP/53 (DNS) messages in the
log. The DNS server the so-called attack is coming from is my ISP. I doubt
my ISP is attacking. I noticed their DNS servers (and other ISP's) poll
periodically, presumably to update their tables. Any idea what might be
going on?

(I've since configured a Deny on inbound DNS and the messages have been
eliminated.)
