Hi,
Have had a terrible last couple of weeks trying to sort out my
computer. Problem seems to involve Zonealarm Pro although I'm not
really certain if its the only problem. Suddenly started having
problems collecting newsgroups and mail from my ISP.
Following which just couldn't connect to the internet. Note I could
still login to my ISP (no problems there, pinged their mail server
etc) However using all the various software that I use I just couldn't
get any further, no news, mail or surfing. Eventually I made a very
interesting discovery Zonealarm was blocking all outgoing requests,
(been installed well over several months now with no problems)
I uninstalled and reinstalled Zonealarm. Same problem.
Starting up each piece of software e.g. Freeagent, if I then put the
DNS that was contacted in the trusted zone, all works well. So thats
what I did, started all the various program, and put all the DNS
numbers into the trusted zone. That should have solved (or rather
worked around) the problem. Unfortunately, it doesn't when it comes to
the Internet proper. Every site I attempt to go to is blocked!!! Sure
I can put that site into the trusted zone but there is a limit.
Shutting down Zonealarm, enables me to surf with no problems. What I
have noticed though is why Zonealarm is blocking my surfing, say my
ISP DNS is 123.123.6.4 I've noticed that Zonealarm log page shows it
as 123.123.6.44......note the extra digit on the end. This is the
cause of my problem. Any thoughts as to what might be causing it.
Otherwise the computer is running fine, with no CPU, memory etc
problems. I have also run a full virus scan.
Any help will be gratefully received
regards
Graham
