Well, something needed to be done; I'm just uncertain that this is
necessarily a real 'solution'. You see, this kills off the functionality
of Albert Janssen's NIS Settings and NIS Rules Viewer and largely
restricts the functionality of Sven Schaefer's NIS Log Viewer.
Perhaps you've incorporated the functionality that would otherwise be
available or perhaps you're working with these guys to ensure their
freeware utilities can be enhanced to work with the new format. It is,
however, abundantly obvious that some of the screw-ups in NIS/NPF 3/4
could _only_ be diagnosed using these tools. Your UI in those two
versions was completely inadequate (and indeed masked) what was necessary
to resolve these problems.
Quite frankly, I really hope you've dramatically improved the 'rules
customization' user interface over what was present in NIS/NPF 3/4. At
one point, there could actually be operational rules in the ruleset that
your NIS/NPF 3/4 interface would simply not display.
And I hope you've provided some capability to DOCUMENT the basic firewall
configuration (I thought Albert did a very nice job with NIS Settings),
and DOCUMENT the existing ruleset (like Albert's NIS Rules Viewer), and
_finally_ replaced the Event Log viewer with something at least more along
the lines of Sven's Rules Viewer (long overdue for an upgrade in my
opinion).
Check with Brendon; he's got the detailed synopses.
| If you want to try a prerelease version of NPF 2003, then go over to

| it at your own risk (back up before installing it). :)
. . . .
Good to see you here; hope to see you again in the future.
