Ladies/Gents,

Has anyone toyed with alternative os solutions on the ip530 nokia
platform? It appears that's is a standard pc inside, (albeit not with
an off the shelf bios, an integrated sandisk for the primary ide
device, and with compact PCI.)

I'm interested in attempting to run any alternative x86 os on it, just
for the hell of it. (Linux/*bsd, whatever.)

For starters, how the heck should I boot the thing to the alternative
disk, it looks like it chain loads the boot sector from the second
disk, (the primary bootloader resides on the sandisk, at
ide0:primary), which then proceedes to load the boot info.

I can't tell if it's chaining to another bootloader, and then
immediately booting or if it's actually loading an image that resides
on the primary disk. Anyone know for sure?

Is it

bios -> ide0:0 bootloader ->kernel

or maybe

bios -> ide0:0 bootloader -> ide0:1 bootloader -> kernel

It's possible the Insyde bios/ipso bootloader does something like
checksum the bootloader / look for a value that's written by a
"correct" ipso installation, and I don't want to create a boat anchor
out of the thing.

(It sounds like a stretch, but there's no reason they don't have to
use obfuscation in a closed hardware platform.)

Please reply in post, as I hate giving out email addy's.
