The key originally contained a "no" value. When I changed it, I was able to
get IE6 as the active program requiring permission instead of windows
explorer insisting on being the only application wanting access. However,
after changing the value to "yes" when I accessed a website the java console
started appearing in the systray. I opened control panels and set the java
console not to open up and I think it still did anyway. I just happened to
notice when I went to the windows update site it was requesting I d/l the
3/4 security update which I did last march. Glancing quickly at the
technical hogwash of the reason for that update, I assume that changing the
key value had something to do with that. So I changed the value back and
redid the security update. Unless I can find out a good reason why I
shouldn't let windows explorer access the internet vs IE, I don't want to
hassle with it much more. But worth the hassle if there is a good reason
why. I suppose I should have left the key unchanged to see if the security
patch changed that value back, but you can't save those d/l's and I didn't
think about it at the time.
