I am just curious. Was your machine connecting to the Internet without any
firewall? The other advise in this thread given to you is sound advise,
which is to wipeout or replace the hard drive(s) and reinstall everything.
You have already been hit for $400 big ones. Why leave the door open again
for any more possibilities of being hurt like that?

Your mindset should be there is nothing on my computer that is so important
that I cannot wipeout the computer and start over. If you have files that
are that important to you, they should be kept offline and accessed only
when needed.

I noticed there are some people in this thread that absolutely don't believe
in software firewalls. They can give you advise on how to harden Win2k so
you won't be cracked so easily.

I myself use BlackIce PC 3.5 on all my machines, which has two features I
like. Application Control, which will not allow any program to run on your
machine without your approval. And Communication Control, which will not
allow any program to communicate to the Internet without your approval.
BlackIce also has very good logging, which will tell you what type of attack
it is and who it's (IP address and ISP name), along with blocking it. I
would set it to PARANOID the highest level.

You can look at Sygate too. You're talking about some freeware to do this
and you been taken for $400 big ones, . come on Zaw, earth to ZAW WAKE UP!

Do the right thing and wipeout your machine and get some kind of firewall.

Not to be funny, but I can't wait to show this post to a friend who has anti
virus software and thinks that is all he needs -- he is PROTECTED!
