Hi,

I currently have a XP setup on a Verizon DSL connection with a SMC
Barricade router which I understand provides basic NAT protection.
With that I have tried both Zone Alarm Pro and Norton Internet
Security. While both programs basically "worked" I found they both
compromised my Internet browsing experience significantly. Mainly I
was having to shut them down a lot in order to access certain web
pages, etc. Even trying to tweak the finer settings of the two
programs did not really help the problems significantly.

I was thinking of upgrading my router to one that provided a deeper
level of protection (or is this even necessary?) such as the Netgear
FR114PNA (Is this a good router?). I was wondering if there were
smaller unobtrusive programs designed to catch outgoing trojan horses,
etc. that did not compromise my surfing experience to the degree the
two big boy programs did, to work in conjunction with the beefier
router. Even though I do run Norton anti virus, I probably should
have something to catch outgoing trojan horses, shouldn't I?

Any opinions on my thoughts or alternative suggestions would be
greatly appreciated! I am not a Internet Security expert.
