Nobody trashed you ... chill out and accept the critisism.
Anyway to me you sound like another user on Usenet named Tracker so maybe I
was a little harsh ... as I said before ;-)

I would hardly think Usenet is the place for specialists (although some most
certainly are). It a bit hit and miss as some know what they are taking
about, some know enough, some clearly know nothing and others make the
effort and sometimes fail.

Your research IMO was way off. Sometimes people miss the most obvious
things. If your car doesn't start you don't check the tires you check and
see if it needs gas etc then you call the engineer.

Nobody was bullying you ... maybe a little ridicule but it was certainly not
meant to offend.
If you are indeed a a Computer Science Professor then you should know that
people need most variables in an equation to find the solution. You should
have given ALL information that was relevant we are not mind readers but
first you should have removed all possible sources of the problem i.e.
shutdown ALL applications.

Let me quote your OP
"Noises are coming from my computer"
What kind of noise? Does the noise go away when you disable the speaker?
This would indicate if this was a hardware problem or a software issue.
"They are NOT coming from programs I am running"
How exactly do you know that? Did you shut down all applications?
" I think they are coming from over the net"
What exactly makes you think they are Net based? Did you shutdown your
Browser and Mail application?
"I do not have a firewall, because i use only dial-up"
Why is this relevant to noises on your computer?
"After recent attacks of spam using my incoming ports and Messenger Service"
What exactly do you mean spam attacks? Do you mean unsolicited messages from
messenger?
If so then closing ports is not the solution ... close Messenger. Actually
don't use messenger get a copy of Trillian or similar.
"I have closed all ports below 1000, including ports 135 and 445 which are
known problems"
How exactly did you close all these ports? Why did you close these ports?
How can you use the internet/Usenet without these ports? What has 135 and
445 got to do with your issue? Yes 135/445 are security concerns but not
relevant to your problem.

Your post in terms of information was useless. You were guessing the cause
of the problem and totally confusing the issue in an attempt to look as if
you knew what you were talking about IMO.

If I was to write a similar message it would follow like this.
------------------------------------------------------------
I have a constant noise coming from my computer. Can anyone shed some light
on this.

This noise is present whenever I use my PC
OK so we know it seems not to be application specific i.e. IE or Outlook or
whatever
Disabling the PC speaker stops the noise.
OK so now we know it's software/OS based.
I have disabled all running applications?
OK so now we know that it must be a background task.

Spec: P3-450, 192MB, 6GB with XP Pro

all.

If you believe that a noise on your computer may be caused by an external
source i.e. Hacker (Cracker) and you are closing ports on your PC then the
FIRST thing you should have done was install a firewall.
I can think of a simple analogy:
If someone is stealing apples from your garden and you think it is a
stranger (Hacker) then you do not close a few gates (close ports) what you
do is lock all the gates (Firewall) BUT first you ask family and friends
(Your local PC) if they have been picking your apples.

Keep your post clear, concise and provide all Relevant information. Please
;-)
