Taking a moment's reflection, David mused:

| I think you are correct Tom. You need to use the advanced firewall options
| and add the specific port numbers to either allow incoming TCP or UDP(or
| both) depending on which of the two applies to your specific program.
Did you mean Firewall >> Custom? There are no port controls in
Firewall >> Advanced. The settings in Custom are only there to allow a port
to pass through (assuming your security is set to high. Changing the
settings in Program Controls >> [program] >> Options will restrict the ports
both outgoing and incoming to the port[s] you specify.
For example, if you have a program using ports 1033 and 1034, and only
wanted it to use 1034, you would select Options, "Allow access only to
ports....", Add >> Custom, select TCP/UDP, then enter your port. In this
example you would enter 1033 into both fields. This will restrict your
application to only using 1034. If course, your program may not be flexible
enough to adjust to that, and fail to work. Some do, some don't ... but
traffic will no longer go in or out on port 1033 via that application.
