For your help kit, a source of information on many DLLs can be found at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=/servicedesks/fileversion/d
llinfo.asp .

For example, this page for msvcrt.dll lists 20 different releases.
Clicking on the 'more information' links provides more details on possible
sources of a different build.

Again, this site is not necessarily an exhaustive listing and that point
is explained in some detail if one picks the Help/FAQ URL on the page
above.
