Yesterday, I ordered the BEFSX41 router to change from my current HomeClick
telephone line home network, sharing my cable modem through ICS. The new
setup sounds awful simple, but would appreciate pointers if I'm missing any
needed configuration setting changes.
It sounds like the current Win98SE machines should just be plugged into the
router without any configuration changes. They will be using a different
(but currently in place) NIC, but this is all I have to do when my daughter
takes her machine to college for the college server connection.
The current host machine is dual booting (either WinXP or WinME). It seems
like this machine just needs to have ICS turned off, and likely the XP ICS
Firewall (just not needed), but I should be able to continue with Norton PF
on all machines. I am only interested in sharing Internet access, so don't
have any file or printer sharing enabled. The WinXP machine has Client for
Microsoft Networks disabled for the NIC currently attached to the cable
modem (and which will go to the router) - does this need to be enabled?
