Hi all, I've got several Sun 420R's in my work environment that have
quad processors in them. I've had several that have had to have the DC
converter replaced, the CPU, and other components due to panics that
cause these production systems to take a nose dive on top of software
issues.
Sun recommended we burn them in for a period of time and to no avail we
still run into issues. We are still working through the hardware issues
that I mention above. However, we seem to also be having problems with
the Raptor Firewall Software and 420R's. We seem to do just fine with
220R's or other Sun platforms.
Again these are primarily running Raptor Firewall software. It is my
understanding that Raptor does not support quad processors so we have
taken two of them out and so far so good in a lab type environment. I'm
not sure if it's a traffic load problem that might exacerbate the
issue...TBD
I wanted to find out if anyone has had similar problems with 420R's with
4 processors and running Raptor Firewall Software? If you have had
problems, what was your solution? We are mulling looking at other
options in platform if we can't solve this problem.
The interesting thing is that we had Sun Ultra's in production with zero
problems for the last two years, we migrate to the 420R's and nothing
but problems. (Why were holding off on causing ourselves more pain in a
production critical environment).
My challenge is I have a several 420R's that we were going to migrate to.
Again, interested in hearing if anyone has had similar issues and also
trying to confirm whether Raptor will truly support more than two
processors. Symantec won't confirm with us for sure.
